A bottle of 20 year old Frapin Cognac distilled in 1991. Starting as winegrowers in 1270, the Frapin family moved into distillation in due course. Based in Chateau Fontpinot in Segonzac, Frapin are one of the highly regarded producers in the region.
Creamy vanilla aromas at first, very approachable, then fresh fruit arrives with green apple and melon, then a slightly green/herbal note.
Soft, subtle spicing, with notes of cinnamon and nutmeg. Very clean and precise, with well-judged fruitiness and then some bigger flavours of cedar and sandalwood.
Spicy, but clean and refreshing.
Drier and more elegant than many Cognacs, this has a welcome freshness, as well as intriguing woody spiciness.
